Fund categories

Match the fund to the time you have.

Short-term money and long-term money need different homes. Start here.
01

Equity funds

Equity funds invest mainly in shares. Over long periods they have been the most reliable way to grow wealth faster than inflation, and the most uncomfortable to hold in a bad year.

02

Debt funds

Debt funds lend money to governments and companies and earn interest. They are for money you need in the next few years, for emergencies, and for the steady part of a portfolio.

03

Hybrid funds

Hybrid funds hold equity and debt, and sometimes gold, in one fund. They rebalance for you, which makes them a calm first step into markets.

04

Index funds & ETFs

Index funds and ETFs copy an index rather than trying to beat it. They are cheap, transparent and hard to argue with as part of a long-term portfolio.

05

ELSS

Equity-linked savings schemes are equity funds that qualify for a tax deduction under the old tax regime, with the shortest lock-in (3 years) of any 80C option.

06

Solution-oriented funds

Retirement and children's funds come with a five-year lock-in or until the goal age. The lock-in protects long-term money from short-term decisions.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What is the minimum to start?

₹5,000 a month through a SIP, or a one-time lumpsum. Many clients begin smaller than they expected and scale up.

Direct or regular plans?

We distribute regular plans and are paid a commission by the fund house; direct plans are available from the fund house without one. What you pay us for is selection, allocation and the discipline to stay invested.

What do I need for KYC?

PAN, Aadhaar, a bank account and a photograph. Most KYC is completed online in a day.

How are mutual funds taxed?

Equity funds held over a year are taxed as long-term capital gains above the annual exemption; under a year, short-term. Debt funds are taxed at your slab. Rules change; we will tell you when they do.

Can I stop or pause a SIP?

Yes, at any time, without penalty. ELSS investments have a three-year lock-in per instalment.

How many equity funds should I own?

For most people, two to four across different styles. More funds usually means more overlap, not more diversification.
