Understanding the math

A disciplined path to long-term wealth.

A systematic investment plan, or SIP, invests a fixed amount in a mutual fund every month. You buy more units when prices fall and fewer when they rise, so you never have to time the market.

These calculators assume each instalment goes in at the start of the period and compounds consistently at your selected rate. Real equity markets undergo volatility; the shape of disciplined compounding is what turns small habits into significant family wealth.

Frequently asked questions

What return should I assume for planning? add

For a diversified equity fund held ten years or more, conservative financial planners typically use 10% to 12%. For hybrid portfolios, 8% to 10%. For debt, 6% to 7%. Planning with lower expected returns provides a safety buffer.

Is the SIP amount locked in forever? add

No. You can raise, pause, reduce, or stop your SIP anytime with zero penalty. Increasing your monthly allocation annually via a Step-up SIP significantly accelerates compounding.

Do these numbers factor in capital gains tax? add

No. Figures reflect gross compounding before taxes. Gains on equity funds held over one year are taxed under Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG) regulations subject to prevailing statutory exemptions.

A calculator gives a number. A plan gives a path.
